Distance Learning
Each year an estimated three million Americans study to improve
themselves and to get ahead. They study by distance education
because they have found it to be a practical, convenient,
and an economical way to get the kind of training and education
they want. Distance education institutions provide a second
opportunity to many who have not acquired all of the education
they need and who, for many reasons, are unable to take advantage
of residential educational opportunities.
Location, income, working hours, age, and educational background
provide no barriers for serious, motivated distance study
students. They may be recently arrived immigrants, high school
dropouts, or young mothers who find it impossible to attend
a class.

Distance education students can progress at their own paceas
fast as they can master the assignments or as slowly as their
schedule permits. They neither get behind their classmates
nor have to wait for them to catch up. A distance education
student masters each assignment. There is no skipping or evasion.
Classroom competition is eliminated. Correspondence/distance
education is not for everyone. Distance study demands investments
of personal time and commitment. Since 1875, more than 100
million Americans have enrolled in distance education courses.
If you have determined that distance study is the right choice
for you, you are already on the way to realizing your educational
goals.
